Quote of the Day

[T]his president has been invisible, he is not a leader. They said this all behind closed doors. Democratic leaders, Democratic rank-and-file. In fact, 40, 50 of the most powerful Democrats on the Hill. I will just stop right there. The complaints were all the same. The president has vanished. He has left us here alone again like he did with health care. Where is he? Now, they didn’t call him a loser, but they sure as hell didn’t call him a leader.

For Reid Obama it’s always about party not country

What a surprise these schmucks have never failed to vote their party when it comes to the debt ceiling:

For Reid, Durbin, and Obama, a (very) partisan record on debt ceiling

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has frequently accused Republicans of playing partisan politics in the debt ceiling crisis. “The moment for partisan games is long since passed,” Reid said on July 21. “It is time for patriots on both sides of the aisle to join hands and actually govern.” On July 26, Reid released a statement headlined REPUBLICANS PUT POLITICS AHEAD OF THE ECONOMY. And on July 24, Reid cast himself as a bipartisan compromiser, trying to talk sense into his partisan adversaries. “We hope Speaker Boehner will abandon his ‘my way or the highway’ approach,” Reid said, “and join us in forging a bipartisan compromise.”

A look at Reid’s record, however, shows that in the last decade his own voting on the issue of the debt ceiling is not only partisan but perfectly partisan. According to “The Debt Limit: History and Recent Increases,” a January 2010 report by the Congressional Research Service, the Senate has passed ten increases to the debt limit since 2000. Reid never voted to increase the debt ceiling when Republicans were in control of the Senate, and he always voted to increase the debt ceiling when Democrats were in control.

Other Democrats have also accused Republicans of partisanship in the debt fight. “It’s time for bipartisan leadership, not partisan gamesmanship,” said the number-two Democrat in the Senate, Richard Durbin, after Republicans pulled out of budget talks with President Obama. And Obama himself described the debt debate as a “partisan three-ring circus” — leaving no doubt that it is Republicans who are practicing partisanship.

At look at Durbin’s record shows that he, too, has voted along absolutely partisan lines. In the last decade, Durbin never voted to increase the debt ceiling when Republicans were in control and always voted to increase the debt ceiling when Democrats were in control. As for Obama, there were four votes to raise the debt ceiling when he was in the Senate. He missed two of them, voted no once when Republicans were in charge, and voted yes once when Democrats were in charge.

Don’t Let Congress Order Internet Companies to Spy on You: Oppose the Data Retention Bill

The U.S. House of Representatives is currently considering H.R. 1981, a bill that would order our online service providers to keep new logs about our online activities, logs to help the government identify the web sites we visit and the content we post online. This sweeping new “mandatory data retention” proposal treats every Internet user like a potential criminal and represents a clear and present danger to the online free speech and privacy rights of millions of innocent Americans.

Tell your Representative to oppose this dangerous bill, before it’s too late.

Quote of the Day

I knew that there is a manifest, marked distinction, which ill men with ill designs, or weak men incapable of any design, will constantly be confounding, that is, a marked distinction between change and reformation. The former alters the substance of the objects themselves; and gets rid of all their essential good, as well as of all the accidental evil, annexed to them. Change is novelty; and whether it is to operate any one of the effects of reformation at all, or whether it may not contradict the very principle upon which reformation is desired, cannot be certainly known beforehand. Reform is, not a change in the substance, or in the primary modification, of the object, but, a direct application of a remedy to the grievance complained of. So far as that is removed, all is sure. It stops there; and, if it fails, the substance which underwent the operation, at the very worst, is but where it was. – Edmund Burke

Kiddy porn private caught

AWOL Soldier Arrested in What Police Say Was New Fort Hood Terror Plot

An Army private has been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to attack Fort Hood soldiers that authorities suggest was close to being carried out. The arrest, first reported by Fox News, comes nearly two years after a deadly shooting rampage at the base.

Pfc. Naser Jason Abdo, an AWOL soldier from Fort Campbell in Kentucky, was arrested by the Killeen, Texas, Police Department near Fort Hood and remains in custody at the Killeen jail.

Abdo, 21, was found with weapons, explosives and jihadist materials at the time of his arrest, a senior Army source confirms to Fox News. He was arrested at around 2 p.m. Wednesday after someone called authorities to report a suspicious individual.

Eric Vasys, a spokesman with the FBI’s San Antonio Office, said authorities found firearms and bomb making components inside Abdo’s motel room. Sources also say Abdo was attempting to make a purchase at Guns Galore in Killeen, the same ammunition store where Maj. Nidal Hasan purchased weapons that were allegedly used to gun down 13 people and wound 30 others at the base on Nov. 5, 2009.

Sources said Abdo had enough materials to make two bombs, including 18 pounds of sugar and six pounds of smokeless gunpowder — a possible trigger for an explosive. A pressure cooker was also found. Another counterterrorism source said the bomb making materials and methodology came “straight out of Inspire (a terrorist magazine) and an Al Qaeda explosives course manual.”

So he’s a conscientious objector who is Muslim who goes AWOL after kiddy porn in found on his computer? WTF? How did this douche even get in and how did they not weed his sorry ass out in basic training?

Why anyone join the military today and then opt for CO status given the world in which we live and given his religious preference?

No red flags there, huh? Gee who’da thunk it.

I’m really starting to worry about the Army’s ability to weed out the shit heads.

Obama the gun runner?

Blog: ‘Fast and Furious’ traced to White House

So what did the President know and when did he know it? The Townhall article also cites an April 2009 joint press conference in Mexico City with Obama and President Felipe Calderon. Obama specifically refers to “gun tracing” and “gun information” as important “issues” in dealing with the drug cartels.

Our focus is to work with Secretary Napolitano, Attorney General Holder, our entire Homeland Security team, ATF, border security, everybody who is involved with this to coordinate with our counterparts in Mexico to significantly ramp up our enforcement of existing laws.

In fact, I’ve asked Eric Holder to do a complete review of how our current enforcement operations our working and make sure we are cutting down on the loop holes that are causing some of these drug trafficking problems.

Last point I would make, is that there are going to be some opportunities where I think we can build some strong consensus I’ll give you one example and that is the issue of gun tracing, the tracing of bullets and ballistics and gun information that had been used in major crimes.”

It seems implausible that President Obama and Eric Holder did not know about Fast and Furious. Did they directly green light the operation which commenced in Fall 2009, months after the April press conference? Did they use stimulus monies to implement the insane policy that led to the deaths of U.S Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, ICE Special Agent Jaime Zapata and approximately 150 Mexican law enforcement officials?

Growth anemic, debt fight poses recession risk

The U.S. economy stumbled badly in the first half of 2011 and came dangerously close to contracting in the January-March period, raising the risk of a recession if a stand-off over the nation’s debt does not end quickly.

The final days for Borders Group Inc. are just ahead. The country’s second-largest bookstore abandoned last-ditch attempts to save the business this week after few bidders stepped up.

The nearly 400 Borders stores still open could start liquidating and selling off assets as soon as Friday. The plan is for all to be shutdown for good by September, leaving nearly 10,000 employees without jobs.

Socialism is the doctrine that man has no right to exist for his own sake, that his life and his work do not belong to him, but belong to society, that the only justification of his existence is his service to society, and that society may dispose of him in any way it pleases for the sake of whatever it deems to be its own tribal, collective good. – Ayn Rand

Obama to withhold SocSec if he doesn’t get his way

HughHewitt.com Blog: The President’s Petulant Tantrum

This may have been the most irresponsible presidential press conference in memory. The president threatened seniors with a cut off of Social Security, predicted a market panic on Monday morning, and then descended into the worst sort of demagoguery even as he denounced politics.

UPDATE: Speaker Boehner just announced he had agreed to $800 billion in revenue increases, and that the president then demanded $400 billion more.

This offer will shock the GOP Caucus which is against any “revenue hikes,” and hopefully the Speaker will soon announce that those tax hikes are off the table permanently.

When do our elected-leaders start losing their jobs?

Return of Mass Layoffs a Grim Sign for U.S. Workers

Putting pressure on an already lousy job market, the mass layoff is making a comeback. In the past week, Cisco, Lockheed Martin and Borders announced a combined 23,000 in job cuts.

Those announcements follow 41,432 in planned cuts in June, up 11.6% from May and 5.3% vs. a year earlier, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

Meanwhile, state and local governments have cut 142,000 jobs this year, The WSJ reports, and Wall Street is braced for another round of cutbacks. This week, Goldman Sachs announced plans to let go 1000 fixed-income traders.

So this is the CHANGE® part?
