More proof the BCS is corrupt, evil, harmful and needs to go away FOREVER!

BCS conducts shallow probe as party rages on

The Bowl Championship Series is so troubled by the graft exposed in Tuesday’s Fiesta Bowl corruption report that it appointed a special “task force.” Among the members is an athletics director who accepted a free Caribbean cruise from the Orange Bowl just last summer.

Yes, there’s nothing like having a guy – in this case, Southern Mississippi’s Richard Giannini – who takes lavish gifts from one bowl game to judge another bowl game for giving out lavish gifts.

The obvious news from Tuesday’s 276-page Fiesta Bowl report is that longtime CEO John Junker was fired and is in major legal trouble, in part because of the eye-popping way his bowl game was run – $1,200 strip-joint bills tend to generate news interest. The real issue is that the BCS is doing what the Fiesta Bowl originally tried to do: conduct a shallow investigation and hope the party is allowed to rage on.

Really?

Gasoline up 100% under Obama

Via Drudge: And were are the liberals and their Bush bumper sticker now?

Feeling pain at the pump? Gas prices have doubled since Mr. Obama took office. According to the GasBuddy gasoline price tracking web site, the price of a gallon of regular gas was around $1.79 when Mr. Obama took office. Today the national average is $3.58. The lowest average price in the continental United States is $3.31 in Tulsa Oklahoma, the highest is $4.14 in Santa Barbara, CA. Four-dollar-a-gallon gas has arrived on average throughout California, and a number of other states are headed in that direction.

Consumer price index (CPI) figures from February show an unadjusted 12 month gasoline inflation rate of 19.2%, but in the last month alone prices jumped 6.8%, probably because of oil price increases due to instabilities in the Middle East. If the trend continues, gas prices would double again within a year. 100% gasoline price inflation is nothing to brag about, but imagine Mr. Obama going into the 2012 election having to explain why gas costs $7.00 a gallon. I’m sure the White House would spin it as one of their “Green” initiatives.

Quote of the Day

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. – C. S. Lewis

So let’s recap.  The DoJ had this video and several witnesses to testify to the actions of the two defendants in a case of voter intimidation.  The case was strong enough that the defendants didn’t bother to challenge it, and a judge entered a verdict of guilty.  Somehow, after the default judgment, the DoJ decided to ask for a dismissal despite the video and the testimony … and now says it’s all in a day’s work?

Only 14, Bangladeshi girl charged with adultery was lashed to death

Hena Akhter’s last words to her mother proclaimed her innocence. But it was too late to save the 14-year-old girl.

Her fellow villagers in Bangladesh’s Shariatpur district had already passed harsh judgment on her. Guilty, they said, of having an affair with a married man. The imam from the local mosque ordered the fatwa, or religious ruling, and the punishment: 101 lashes delivered swiftly, deliberately in public.

Hena dropped after 70.

Bloodied and bruised, she was taken to hospital, where she died a week later.

Amazingly, an initial autopsy report cited no injuries and deemed her death a suicide. Hena’s family insisted her body be exhumed. They wanted the world to know what really happened to their daught

And he’s better than us little people the hypocrite: Rep. Anthony Weiner racks up over $2K in Washington DC parking tickets

One of New York’s top parking scolds can’t seem to avoid parking tickets himself.

Rep. Anthony Weiner has racked up nearly $2,180 in parking tickets in Washington, DC from 2007 to early this month, according to an investigation by Capitol Hill paper Roll Call.

DC records show Weiner only just paid them off, Roll Call said.

Weiner has griped repeatedly about parking tickets racked up by United Nations diplomats in New York. A year ago, he issued a press release complaining that foreign governments owed $18 million in parking tickets.

“It’s insulting to all New Yorkers that countries like Yemen, Zimbabwe and Iran owe the city millions in unpaid parking tickets,” Weiner said then.

At least in DC, Weiner has paid up, spokesman Dave Arnold told Roll Call.

“All of the Congressman’s parking tickets have been paid. He is pleased to have helped decrease the DC budget deficit,” Arnold said.

Members of Congress are exempt from tickets while on “official business.” They also get special parking spots at DC’s National Airport.

The District’s database showed several instances in which Weiner appears to have incurred multiple violations at the same time, such as failing to display current tags while parked in a taxi stand zone.

If Weiner ever gets bigger, SNL will HAVE to re-hire Rachel Dratch to play him.

Calling BULLSHIT on Rolling Stone

Help Michael Yon destroy the false narrative the fishwrap/birdcage liner Rolling Stone is attempting to create by sharing this with anyone you think would approach the issue with an honest open mind:

Seldom do I waste time with rebutting articles, and especially not from publications like Rolling Stone. Today, numerous people sent links to the latest Rolling Stone tripe. The story is titled “THE KILL TEAM, THE FULL STORY.” It should be titled: “BULLSHIT, from Rolling Stone.”

The story—not really an “article”—covers Soldiers from 5/2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) in Afghanistan. A handful of Soldiers were accused of murder. It does in fact appear that a tiny group of rogues committed premeditated murder. I was embedded with the 5/2 SBCT and was afforded incredible access to the brigade by the Commander, Colonel Harry Tunnell, and the brigade Command Sergeant Major, Robb Prosser. I know Robb from Iraq. Colonel Tunnell had been shot in Iraq.

The brigade gave me open access. I could go anywhere, anytime, so long as I could find a ride, which never was a problem beyond normal combat problems. If they had something to hide, it was limited and I didn’t find it. I was not with the Soldiers accused of murder and had no knowledge of this. It is important to note that the murder allegations were not discovered by media vigilance, but by, for instance, at least one Soldier in that tiny unit who was appalled by the behavior. A brigade is a big place with thousands of Soldiers, and in Afghanistan they were spread thinly across several provinces because we decided to wage war with too few troops. Those Soldiers accused of being involved in (or who should have been knowledgeable of) the murders could fit into a minivan. You would need ten 747s for the rest of the Brigade who did their duty….

Rolling Stone commits a literary “crime” by deceptively entwining this normal combat video with the Kill Team story. The Taliban on the motorcycle were killed during an intense operation in the Arghandab near Kandahar City. People who have been to the Arghandab realize the extreme danger there. The Soviets got beaten horribly in the Arghandab, despite throwing everything including the Soviet kitchen sink into the battle that lasted over a month. Others fared little better. To my knowledge, 5/2 and supporting units were the first ever to take Arghandab, and these two dead Taliban were part of that process.

The killing of the armed Taliban on the motorcycle was legal and within the rules of engagement. Law and ROE are related but separate matters. In any case, the killing was well within both the law and ROE. The Taliban on the back of the motorcycle raised his rifle to fire at our Soldiers but the rifle did not fire….

This could go on for pages, but Rolling Stone is not worth it, and thrashing them might only build their readership. I’ve found in the past that boycotts work. I led a boycott against one magazine and it went bankrupt. It’s doubtful that Rolling Stone will go bankrupt for its sins, but you can cost them money not by boycotting their magazine, but by boycotting their advertisers. That hurts. Just pick an advertiser whose products you already buy, boycott it, and tell the advertiser why you are not buying their product.

Now I’ve got to get back to work.

Spot the Idiot(s): Toni Duncan & Ashley Jackson

Just more examples of why this country is so screwed: Pregnant woman and her mom attack 71-year-old at Wal-Mart

A 71-year-old greeter at an Ohio Walmart was choked by a pregnant woman and her mother, police said on Saturday.

The expectant mother also threatened to blow up the store, authorities said.

The ladies, Toni Duncan and her mother, Ashley Jackson, were at the super store in Elyria to visit the customer service desk, a police report stated.

When no one was on-hand to help them, the pair stormed out. They encountered the unidentified greeter at the door, and that’s when things went off the rails.

The elderly man asked to see a receipt, according to witnesses.

Both women hurled curses and racial epithets at the man, police said, before 21-year-old Duncan allegedly struck him with a shopping cart and then choked him.

Police said Jackson, 49, threatened to punch the older man, then ran to the customer service desk and offered the same to a woman behind the counter, the police report said.

“I’m going to blow Walmart up!” she yelled at least three times, according to the police report.

Ugly angry women at Walmart – sounds like a sitcom.

Putting pampered princes in their places

This rates an 11 on my 1-10 Awesome Scale: Marine dad to Lebron: You’re not in combat

Pro basketball superstar LeBron James used his @KingJames Twitter account to pump himself up for the remainder of the NBA season.

“20+ games left in phase 2,” he tweeted March 2. “I’m ReFOCUSED! No prisoners, I have no friends when at WAR besides my Soldiers.”

That sentiment didn’t sit well with South Florida Sun-Sentinel sports editor Joe Schwerdt, who has two sons in the Marine Corps, one in the Reserves and the other deployed to Afghanistan.

Schwerdt saw the tweet while at work and it “just struck a nerve.” He immediately began to write.

“Dear LeBron,” Schwerdt wrote. “Just wanted to let you know: You are not at war. You are not a soldier. …(W)hat you do and who you are is not even close to what they do and who they are.

“You are probably a nice guy,” he continued. “And you are not the first athlete to compare sports to war; athletes to warriors; games to battle. I don’t mean to single you out. But it is time to stop those comparisons.”

“People die in wars. They rarely die playing the games you play. If they do, it is not because they are attacked or shot at or booby trapped by an enemy. People lose limbs in war. Their bodies are torn apart by IEDs. Their legs and arms are ripped through by bullets and rockets,” he wrote.

Schwerdt goes on to say that James — and by extension, pro athletes like him — go to work in cozy arenas before throngs of adoring fans. Marines, on the other hand, go to work patrolling village streets, unaware of who the enemy is or what might be lurking around a corner.

He reminds James that, sure, athletes are susceptible to concussions. But servicemen in combat face post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries, and loss of sight and hearing from bomb blasts.

“You travel to your games in the comfort of a chartered plane,” Schwerdt wrote. “You go home to an opulent mansion. You have little danger of coming home in a flag-draped box.”

If this were where our warriors ended up after risking life and limb, then someone might mistake the multi-millionaire athlete for a warrior. But we all know they don’t. The government and our society as a whole doesn’t treat our warriors anywhere near as well as they should.

So LeBron and all you other pseudo-warriors. Go play your game with your ball and bathe in your money, boys…. Just don’t compare yourself to men who are worth more than you.

Quote of the Day

“The majority of those who are loosely identified by the term ‘liberals’ are afraid to let themselves discover that what they advocate is statism. [...] They want to keep all the advantages and effects of capitalism, while destroying the cause, and they want to establish statism without its necessary effects. They do not want to know or to admit that they are the champions of dictatorship and slavery.” – Ayn Rand
