Jimmy Carter on steroids

via Haaretz Daily Newspaper

Jimmy Carter will go down in American history as “the president who lost Iran,” which during his term went from being a major strategic ally of the United States to being the revolutionary Islamic Republic. Barack Obama will be remembered as the president who “lost” Turkey, Lebanon and Egypt, and during whose tenure America’s alliances in the Middle East crumbled.

What the media didn’t tell you about the Dearborn-istan ‘bomber’

via This ain’t Hell, but you can see it from here: Vet arrested near mosque with firecrackers

1stCavRVN11B sends us news that a Vietnam-era helicopter pilot was arrested in Dearborne, MI yesterday for plotting to illuminating the night sky over a mosque there. It’s funny how the media describes the plot in their headlines. The Chicago Tribune says 63-year-old Roger Stockham was arrested with explosives; The Denver Post, meanwhile, says it was fireworks; Of course, both articles call them “Class C fireworks” which are the low grade commercial fireworks you can buy along the road around the Fourth of July. Scary, huh?

Dearborn Mayor Jack O’Reilly said the suspect “had a lot of high-end fireworks.”

“It was the max you could buy legally.”

They were not “conventional explosives,” O’Reilly said. “But at that level, those things misused are terrific weapons.”

Whew! we really dodged the bullet on that one didn’t we? There were 700 people at a funeral in the Mosque. Stockham could have blown a finger off every single one of the funeral-goers…

How does being angry at the government translate into bombing a mosque with low grade noisemakers?
Yeah, if it was a Muslim person with a truckload of pipebombs we wouldn’t know his name yet and we’d be cautioned not to jump to conclusions about terrorism. But a pensioner with firecrackers in his trunk is “very dangerous” and worthy of involving the FBI.

And from the comments of this, it appears the guy is two things that were also not mentioned by the media, a muslim and a nutcase.

Another Obama fail….

Chicks On The Right:

You know what’s completely awesome? When Obama touts the success of something in his SOTU, only to have to discover later that the reason for the success of that something is because that something did the EXACT OPPOSITE of what Obama would normally support.Case in point.

In his SOTU, Obama shone a spotlight on the Bruce Randolph School in Denver.
“Take a school like Bruce Randolph in Denver,” he said. “Three years ago, it was rated one of the worst schools in Colorado. Last May, 97 percent of seniors received their diploma.”

Total success story, right? But here’s why. Five years after it opened, that school was given permission by the state to run completely autonomously – free from district and more importantly, UNION rules. And then, in the most brilliant move ever, the principal made every teacher reapply for his/her job. A grand total of SIX made the cut. Try THAT in a union setting. [emphasis added.]

“How Did You Feel When You Found Out Your Best Friend Keith Olbermann Lost His Job?” (Video)

HotAirPundit:

Quote of the Day

Beuller?

When Mr. Obama talks about reducing the deficit, it’s almost comical. The changes he proposes are so minuscule in terms of their effect on the budget that it’s as if he is saying he can throw a rock to the moon….

There were two glimpses of the old Obama — when he slammed “subsidies” for oil companies, which of course do not get any subsidies, but have business deductions the way every other business does, he sounded every bit like the envious skinny Harvard man he once was. When he railed against tax breaks that he considered identical to government spending, that was outright socialism. That concept implies that all the income in the nation belongs to the state, and that if we let working people keep any of it, that is the same as a government expenditure. The opposite is true. The income belongs to the people, and they allow government to have some of it. But, of course, the servant has become the master now.

I love Reason

And reading the live blogging of the SOTU by the folks at Reason was more informative, more believable and definitely more entertaining than the real thing. Here’s a taste:

10:09 Damon Root: Here comes the waterworks

10:09 Radley Balko: “we all believe in the rights enshrined in the Constitution”?*
(*except for anyone accused of a drug crime)

10:09 Brian Doherty: Apparently when you make fun of Scranton, JB cries…

10:09 Matt Welch: HE’S CRYING!!!!!!

10:10 Katherine Mangu-Ward: I promised myself I wouldn’t cry.

10:10 Peter Suderman: The Alan Brothers are not a country band then, I take it?

10:10 Radley Balko: was there a “chug if boehner cries” rule in the drinking game?

10:10 Brian Doherty: Are the president’s enemies ruining Brandon Fisher’s life yet?

10:10 Katherine Mangu-Ward: A double shot of delicious Republican tears, I think.

10:10 Damon Root: The Alan Brothers play both kinds of music, country AND western.

10:11 Peter Suderman: Boehner crying was not in the drinking game. There’s always next year….

10:14 Brian Doherty: And, we’ll keep all our foreign policy commitments, and maybe some new ones if the aspirations involved are democratic enough.

10:14 Peter Suderman: IT AIN’T OVER FOLKS: There’s still Rep. Ryan’s response.

10:14 Matt Welch: Not just “win the future,” but Sputnik, and everything out of the Dubya playbook.

Chris Matthews: Don’t know much about history….

Michele Bachman Gives Chris Matthews a History Lesson

Chris Matthews once again embarrasses himself with an unhinged and ill-informed attack on Rep. Michele Bachmann in this clip. The entire basis for his idiotic attacks, repeatedly calling her a “balloonhead,” stems from Bachmann claiming that the Founders, also mentioning John Adams’ son, John Quincy Adams specifically by name, continued to work until the blight of slavery became a thing of the past in America.

Chris Matthews was nearly apoplectic in his questioning of Tea Party Express co-founder Sal Russo on the topic of Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and her controversial re-imagining of history where the founding fathers found a way to end slavery in their lifetime. Repeatedly calling Bachmann a “balloon head,” Matthews demanded to know why Russo and the Tea Party wanted Bachmann to give a response to the State of the Union address or, more generally, why they ever wanted her to open her mouth in the first place?

I don’t believe Bachmann said anything about “in their lifetime.” But it’s Chris Matthews that needs to bone up on his American History, not Rep. Bachmann. As a Founder and the second President, it’s true that John Adams put the Republic above what was then an impossible issue to resolve. It is inaccurate to suggest he was a proponent of slavery with no role in its ultimately being eliminated in the U.S. No, he did not sacrifice the forming of a Republic for it, which is precisely what a strong position against it would have meant. But he did make his sentiments known (for more), taking pride in never having employed a slave. He is said to have found it “repugnant” and he argued against the Southern position that blacks not be included in population figures during the Continental Congress. In short, he did what he could without sacrificing the greater cause at the time.

And well the rest is history as they say….

Go read the entire beautiful destruction of Chris Matthews’ ignorance.

Targeting the Taliban? There’s an iPhone App For That

An iPhone app that tracks down the Taliban has been developed by a U.S. soldier — who put $26,000 of his own money into the project.

The idea for a smartphone application to assist soldiers in combat came to Capt. Jonathan J. Springer in a dream last July, he said Monday. The 31-year-old, from Fort Wayne, Ind., has worked with programmers ever since to make the idea a reality.

Tactical Nav, which is expected to be available through Apple’s App Store next month, assists soldiers in mapping, plotting and photographing waypoints on a battleground and conveying coordinates to supporting units.

Rachel Maddow’s genius on display….

Breitbart.tv: Brilliant Rachel Maddow Explains Why SDI Will Never Work

“That’s the whole idea of SDI. We’ll protect ourselves by shooting missiles with other missiles. It’s never worked in a test, we’ve spent billions on it. And anybody who knows the physics of it, knows it can never work.” Rachel Maddow, January 21, 2011

She may be a smart girl but she’s not very well-informed and has no clue about physics on this planet. No wonder they let Olbermann go, they wanted to keep the smart ones on the air:

2007 – U.S. carries out successful missile defense test

A U.S. interceptor missile on Friday shot down a dummy warhead replicating an incoming North Korean missile in the seventh successful test of Boeing Co’s long-range missile shield, the Pentagon said.

The Missile Defense Agency said in a statement it completed a test “involving a successful intercept by a ground-based interceptor missile designed to protect the United States against a limited long-range ballistic missile attack.”

The interceptor missile was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base on California’s central coast, and its target was fired from Alaska’s Kodiak Island.

2008 – U.S. missile defense succeeds in warhead test [obligatory MSNBC link]

The U.S. military’s ground-based missile defense system destroyed a missile launched from an airplane in the first successful test of the system’s ability to destroy a warhead that separates from its booster, the Missile Defense Agency said.

The interceptor missile launched off Kauai on Wednesday had to differentiate between the warhead and the body of the missile before destroying the warhead above the Pacific Ocean, the agency said. It was the fifth successful intercept in five attempts since 2005 for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system, according to the agency.

2009 – Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense Test Successful

In conjunction with the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), U.S. Pacific Fleet ships and crews successfully conducted the latest Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) at-sea firing event on July 30. During this event, entitled Stellar Avenger, the Aegis BMD-equipped ship, USS Hopper (DDG 70), detected, tracked, fired and guided a Standard Missile -3 (SM-3) Block (Blk) IA to intercept a sub-scale short range ballistic missile. The target was launched from the Kauai Test Facility, co-located on the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF), Barking Sands, Kauai. It was the 19th successful intercept in 23 at-sea firings, for the Aegis BMD Program, including the February 2008 destruction of the malfunctioning satellite above the earth’s atmosphere. Stellar Avenger was part of the continual evaluation of the certified and fielded Aegis BMD system at-sea today.

At approximately 5:40 pm (HST), 11:40 pm (EDT), a target was launched from PMRF. Three U.S. Navy Aegis BMD-equipped ships, the cruiser, USS Lake Erie (CG 70) and destroyers USS Hopper (DDG 70) and USS O’Kane (DDG 77) detected and tracked the target with their SPY radars. Each developed fire control solutions. At 5:42 pm (HST), 11:42 pm (EDT) the crew of USS Hopper fired one SM-3 Blk IA missile. The USS Hopper’s Aegis BMD Weapon System successfully guided the SM-3 to a direct body to body hit, approximately two minutes after leaving the ship. The intercept occurred about 100 miles above the Pacific Ocean. USS O’Kane conducted a simulated engagement of the target. USS Lake Erie, with its recently installed upgraded Aegis BMD 4.0.1 Weapons System, detected and tracked the same target.

2010 – Joint Japan-U.S. Missile Defense Flight Test Successful

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and the United States Missile Defense Agency (MDA) announced the successful completion of an Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) intercept flight test, in cooperation with the U.S. Navy, off the coast of Kauai in Hawaii.

The event marked the fourth time that a JMSDF ship has engaged a ballistic missile target, including three successful intercepts, with the sea-based midcourse engagement capability provided by Aegis BMD.

The JFTM-4 test event verified the newest engagement capability of the Japan Aegis BMD configuration of the recently upgraded Japanese destroyer, JS KIRISHIMA. At approximately 5:06 p.m. (HST), 12:06 p.m. Tokyo time on Oct. 29, 2010, a separating 1,000 km class ballistic missile target was launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands, Kauai, Hawaii.

JS KIRISHIMA crew members detected and tracked the target. The Aegis Weapon System then developed a fire control solution and launched a Standard Missile -3 (SM-3) Block IA missile. Approximately three minutes later, the SM-3 successfully intercepted the target approximately 100 miles above the Pacific Ocean. JFTM-4 is a significant milestone in the growing cooperation between Japan and the U.S. in the area of missile defense.
