Muslims express fury over pope’s remarks
Muslims around the world expressed outrage Friday over Pope Benedict XVI’s comments on Islam, with Turkey’s ruling party accusing him of trying to revive the spirit of the Crusades and scores taking to the streets in protest.
Pakistan’s parliament unanimously condemned the pope, and the Foreign Ministry summoned the Vatican’s ambassador to express regret over the remarks.
The Vatican said the pope did not intend the remarks — made in Germany on Tuesday during an address at a university — to be offensive.
Benedict quoted from a book recounting a conversation between 14th century Byzantine Christian Emperor Manuel Paleologos II and a Persian scholar on the truths of Christianity and Islam.
“The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war,” the pope said. “He said, I quote, ‘Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.’”
First cartoons, now this…
When you see how over-sensitive, immature, and barbaric the average muslim is around the world with their buring things, rioting, and carrying on, how can you take their point of view seriously? It’s like they along with the American Left-wing are born of the same mother.
Let’s just completely ignore the surrounding context of what the Pope said. Yeah, that’s how civilized people are supposed to act. I feel less and less for the muslim word when I see this. The Dark Ages were to have passed by now - at least in our world.
Where are the moderate responsible muslims speaking out against this newest spat of idiocy on the part of their bretheren? Christians spoke out against Timothy McVeigh and Eric Rudolph, where are the voices of reason?
UPDATE: I wanted to share this gem I found over at The Corner:
Re: Whiners [Jonah Goldberg]
Hooboy, lots of folks agree. For example, from a reader:Jonah,
I wholeheartedly agree with you that the Muslim “street” protests too much. My question is this… where is this supposed “Religion of Peace” we keep hearing about?? From today’s MSNBC there is a story about the brouhaha and on Page two we get this deliciously ironic quote from Turkey’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman [emphasis mine];
“Anyone who describes Islam as a religion as intolerant encourages violence,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said.
I mean the guy is denouncing the supposedly “false” assumption that Islam is intolerant and in the very sentence (that he’s decrying this “slander”) he tacitly admits that the criticism is true.
You cannot make stuff like this up.
No, you cannot, anger them and see their true colors.
